Garden Project

CA Volunteers building raised vegetable bedsVolunteers from Computer Associates (CA) designed, created, built and raised a vegetable garden for the youth at the Wading River Campus in 2012.

The vegetable garden was built for the purpose of demonstrating gardening techniques and skills to provide a recreational activity for the students and residents.  The students are also able to plant and harvest their crops.  The proceeds of the garden would enhance the “Farm to Table” nutrition concept taught in the culinary classes.

The Computer Associates volunteers built the garden from the bottom up, from the raised flower beds, putting up a fence around the garden, a storage container for supplies and taught youth living on Campus how to plant vegetables and care from them. The entire garden and supplies were funded by CA Associates.

The Garden has blossomed and the residents and students have developed a keen interest in the project, as demonstrated with the formation of the Garden Club.

The group from CA returned in 2013 to expand the garden and the amount of fresh produce available.
